“And the testimony is this, that God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son.  He who has the Son has the life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have the life.” 1 John 5:11-12

It couldn’t be stated any more directly.  If you have the Son, you have eternal life.  If you don’t have the Son, you don’t have eternal life.  You either have it or you don’t.  It’s a Gift offered by God to all.

The “Have’s” have it because they’ve received it as a gift.  It was offered as a result of the sacrificial death and miraculous resurrection of Jesus Christ.  Those who do not have it have either rejected the gift or have not yet heard of this spectacular and gracious offer.

That’s where you and I come in.  As recipients of the gift we, of all people, understand the reason behind the Great Commission to “go and make disciples of all nations.” (Matthew 28:19-20).  Every one of us started as a “Have Not.” Hopefully you’ve not forgotten what it’s like to be a “Have Not.”  Then, you heard about the Gift, received the Gift, and became a “Have.”  You will never be the same.

Once you became a “Have” you became a follower of Jesus Christ.  Following Christ automatically and immediately puts you on the track to becoming a “fisher of men.” It is not optional.  It’s God’s plan for all former “Have Nots” to become “Have’s” who offer the Gift to the “Have Nots.”

Also, the clock is ticking.  No one has an unlimited amount of time to hear about the Gift of eternal life and make a decision whether they will receive it.  Many will die first without the gift.  Many will die before having an opportunity to hear about God’s gracious offer if “fishers of men” do not “fish FOR men.

The urgent opportunity is before us.  Don’t allow another day to go by without telling others about the Gift.
