“If anyone thirsts, let him come to me and drink. Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, ‘Out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.’” Now this he said about the Spirit, whom those who believed in him were to receive.” John 7:37-39
Followers of Jesus are more than followers. When a person takes a step of faith and believes in the One who died for him and was raised from the dead, namely Jesus Christ, that person becomes the recipient of a life-changing gift. The Holy Spirit Himself comes to reside within that person.
The Holy Spirit is the source of our life. His life within us refreshes, stimulates, and strengthens. When you or I are weary, discouraged, or spiritually dry, we simply need to hold our heart and soul beneath the faucet of His “living water.” He will pour Himself out on you and you will notice the difference immediately.
Followers of Jesus have discovered this spring of life and take frequent drinks. They are careful not to mechanize or pragmatize the Christian life. Following Jesus is about a relationship that constantly changes and shapes you. It’s not about becoming more effective or efficient in accomplishing your spiritual to-do list. It’s about becoming more like Him. And that occurs as you take regular gulps from the “rivers of living water.”
“Fishers of men” regularly drink from this “river of living water” and are committed to delivering a cup of that water to others. It’s time to fill your cup up and pass it on. Look for a thirsty soul and offer a drink today.
