“For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the archangel’s voice, and with the trumpet of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are still alive will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air; and so we will always be with the Lord. Therefore encourage one another with these words.“ 1 Thess 4:16-18 HCSB
Jesus is coming again! Be careful not to hear those words as simply a religious cheer that is more emotion than substance. Jesus is really coming back…and we will see Him. It’s not just a story intended to make you feel better today.
I don’t have to tell you how easy it is to get into a religious routine. Read your Bible, pray a little each day, go to church on Sunday, treat people as you would have them treat you, and on, and on, and on. The Christian life can become nothing more than a monotonous routine. And you can get so good at it that you don’t even realize what has happened until a crisis occurs. Don’t allow yourself to forget how real and personal God is. He wants you to know Him, not just know facts about Him. And, have I told you this before…He is planning to return.
When you and I see Him, that will be a great day. I’m certain we’ll all be very surprised and amazed. We can only imagine what that day will be like. And it is approaching fast.
Until then, we’ve got lots of good news to pass on. A “fisher of men” knows how to prepare a person for that day. There will be no regrets for those who believe in Jesus Christ. But there’s no believing unless someone passes on the truth to believe in. That’s the role of a “fisher of men.”
You do want others to be ready, don’t you? Then be sure to tell them how. Paul said it this way, “therefore encourage one another with these words.”
